Legal Surveys

In accordance with the British Columbia Land Surveyors Act, only a certified BC Land Surveyor has the authority to establish or re-establish property boundaries. Additionally, only a BC Land Surveyor is qualified to offer an expert opinion on the positioning of a building or improvement in relation to an existing or proposed property boundary or corner.

The legal surveys and plans prepared by BC Land Surveyors are subject to various provincial statutes, including:

  • Land Act

  • Land Title Act

  • Strata Property Act

  • Mineral Tenure Act

  • Oil & Gas Activities Act

BC Land Surveyors are authorized to prepare a variety of legal survey plans, including:

  • Subdivision plans

  • Easement and rights-of-way plans

  • Airspace parcel plans

  • Strata plans (e.g., Forms V & W)

  • Amendments to strata plans

  • Road dedication plans

  • Lease plans
